Jack Price (He/Him)

President

Jack is a third year PhD student in the Haas Lab. Jack uses novel methods in computational microscopy to uncover the decision making calculations that occur at a single neuron. Outside of work, Jack enjoys going on hikes, skiing and generally anything outside. As president Jack’s goal is to build on the foundation created by the previous years BMEGA execs with an emphasis on building a sense of community for the graduate students in SBME.

Konrad Swic (He/Him)

Treasurer

Konrad is deeply passionate about the outdoors and values the importance of building a strong sense of community beyond work and academics. As treasurer, he is committed to fostering community growth by organizing engaging events and supporting all BMEGA team-building activities.

Rosalyn Carr (She/Her)

Communications Coordinator

Rosalyn is a 3rd-year PhD candidate in Biomedical Engineering at UBC, working in the Digital Health Innovations Lab at BC Children’s Hospital Research Institute. Their research focuses on promoting the return of research results back to research participants by developing a scalable system for creating and sharing results. As Communications Coordinator, they aim to ensure consistent updates and communication across BMEGA’s platforms. In their free time, Rosalyn enjoys creating ceramic sculptures and pottery.

Arshaan Dhingra (He/Him)

SBME Program Liaison

Arshaan is a MASc student at the Yadav lab and is developing computational models for Cell Free Systems . As a program liaison, Arshaan hopes to relay students’ concerns to the department .

Taia Yuen-Joaquin (She/Her)

Social Coordinator

Taia is a MASc student in the Zandstra lab at SBME. Her work aims to explore mechanotransduction and sex differences in induced pluripotent stem cells during blood development. As social coordinator, she aims to foster supportive communities and create welcoming spaces for graduate students to interact. Outside of the lab, Taia loves to be involved in scientific outreach, participate (with questionable success) in rec sports, and hunt for good thrift finds.

Alix (She/Her)

Undergraduate Liaison

Alix is a first-year MASc student in the Surgical Technologies Lab and is working on developing a more accurate and accessible means of diagnosing Developmental Dysplasia of the Hip in infants. Outside the lab, Alix enjoys boxing and is also a group fitness instructor. As the Undergraduate Liasion, Alix hopes to develop a sense of community across the graduate and undergraduate SBME students through events and mentorship.

Omar Tariq (He/Him)

Member at Large

Omar is a third year PhD student in the de Boer lab at SBME. Omar studies how mutations affect the gene regulatory logic of cells in disease. His focus as treasurer is to financially facilitate the rest of the team in holding community building events for the students at SBME. Outside of the lab you can find Omar kicking a soccer ball around or reading.
